Question Is Enfotec a software or a hardware company?
Answer Enfotec designs and manufactures Linux based security appliances integrating firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention and anti virus into one, manageable appliance. All critical security functions are implemented in firmware assisted hardware engines relying on programmable chips running multiple tasks simultaneously for increased performance. Question Since Open Source software is free why should one purchase your product?
Answer Regular off-the-shelf Open Source distribution is neither hardened for security nor optimized for performance on a specific CPU architecture. Enfotec builds the security-enabled Linux distribution entirely from sources — by carefully selecting only the necessary components and applying the most recent security updates and enhancements. Each one of our appliances runs a hardened, security-enabled Linux operating system, which is stripped down, tailor-made and optimized for security and performance. Besides, most Open Source software, although free, does not offer the ease-of-use, support, documentation and update service that our products offer.

Question What specific Open Source components do you use?
Answer Besides the Red Hat Linux kernel we use components from FreeS/WAN (IPSec), netfilter/iptables firewalling subsystem, Snort, OpenSSH, DHCP Server, SNMP, Net-Tools, etc., as well as Webmin for management.

Question Do Enfotec products have an independent certification?
Answer We are currently in the process of obtaining independent certification and will post it on our web site when completed.
